Status: Temporary Full Time

Wage Schedule: $36.840 - $50.240 per hour

This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 7 April 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 14 April 2026.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performing routine and specialized test procedures in Histopathology including but not limited to embedding, microtomy, slide distribution and quality control; participating in validation of testing equipment and methodologies; maintaining organized workflow to maintain performance standards of quantity and quality; observing, troubleshooting and reporting problems with methods, equipment etc. to his/her supervisor; ensuring cleanliness of equipment and immediate work area; following established safety and infection control procedures; participating in student training programs, as required; and performing other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

*Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS);
*Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
(CMLTO);
*Recent working experience in a Histopathology Laboratory required;
*Familiar with receipt and handling of frozen sections, lymphoma protocols, muscle biopsies, renal biopsies;
*Familiar with and exercises judgement with embedding and cutting various specimen types and protocols for immunohistochemistry, special stains, send out testing and control blocks;
* Ability to follow up on requests and complete tasks in a timely manner;
*Experience with manual and automated special stains in a hospital setting an asset;
*Ability to operate and perform maintenance on various laboratory equipment;
*Must have in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments and their interrelationships;
*Must have working and technical knowledge of the electronic and/or mechanical equipment necessary to perform routine and specialized testing;
*Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
*Proven problem solving skills, with the ability to recognize problems, identify the cause, create alternatives and determine solutions;
*Able to exercise independent judgement, deductive reasoning with attention to detail;
*Is a team player and contributes to ideas or suggestions to improve departmental workflows;
*Able to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations;
*Proven organizational skills with the ability to assess requests and prioritize them to ensure good and prompt patient care;
*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions;
*Physically capable of performing bending, lifting, turning frequently throughout the shift to accomplish tasks
