McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Pinewood Centre for addictions and mental health, and The Shoulder Centre.The Lakeridge Health Emergency Departments are home to some of the busiest EDs in the Province, seeing approximately 100,000 visits annually. We currently have an opportunity for a Physician Assistant (PA)Graduate to join the Emergency Department team as part of a new Physician Assistant program. This is supported by our values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Physician Assistant will provide clinical services under the direct supervision of ED staff physicians and play a key role in supporting the patient experience. Expected duties and responsibilities will include:" Obtain health and social histories;" Conduct physical assessments and interpret findings;" Activate medical directives and complete preliminary interpretations of necessary diagnostic tests including but not limited to ECGs, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging;" Perform procedures such as ECG, casting, suturing, application of orthopedic devices, slit lamp examination, measuring intraocular pressure, visual acuity;" Formulate treatment plans and support appropriate connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics and support any other services/special needs for the patient;" Documentation of patient encounters;" Supporting physicians with health care technology and applications such as Connecting Ontario and hospital applications including the Clinical Information System, Order Set repository, and bedside ultrasound.As an integrated member of the health care team and support to the ED Physician, the Physician Assistant will have a strong desire for life-long learning, quality improvement, patient safety and collaborative team-based care.QUALIFICATIONS:* Certification with National or Canadian Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and have experience working within a multidisciplinary provider team with a passion for Emergency Medicine for contributing to a positive patient-family experience.*Certification (CCPA or PA-C) or eligible for certification through the PA Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or United States (NCCPA) Required;" Graduate of MOHLTC- approved program including the Canadian Forces Physician Assistant Training Program, Graduate of a Canadian or American Physician Assistant Training Program, or trained International Medical Graduate" Eligible (and in process) to write the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada Exam (PACCC) or NCCPA, with successful completion;" Flexible with superior organization skills and the ability to work efficiently to prioritize multiple, competing tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;" Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, make decisions and take initiative while working with confidential patient information and responding to patient inquiries;" Superior work ethic, professionalism and reliability; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer/client service;" Superior written/oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to effectively convey factual information and detailed explanations;" Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients;" Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety;" Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork & JoyCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
