OPSEUJob Title: Technologist AssistantStatus: Temporary Full TimeDepartment: CT Scan - CorporateProgram: Diagnostic Imaging Services8 Hour Shifts, Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends Schedule (Subject to Change)Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Ajax-PickeringWage Schedule: $25.560 - $31.860 per hourPosting Reference: 2500000354This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 6 February 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 13 February 2025.Diagnostic Imaging provides services to outpatients, inpatients and emergency patients over a wide variety of modalities which include CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, ultrasound, x-ray and mammography. Under the direction and guidance of the Radiologist, DI Manager and with direct oversight from a Technologist, the Technologist Assistant will work as part of the DI team to ensure efficient workflow and will be accountable to provide support to both the patient and the Technologist.The Technologist Assistant will support the MRT's in the area in which they are working by coordinating times for In-Patients and Emergency Department requests, communicating necessary preparation to the floor nurse, verifying bloodwork, organizing portering, assist with patient transfers from the stretcher to the imaging tables, inserting IVs (where trained and competent), changing MRI coils if required, position patient into the scanner and handling of imaging equipment.Provide non-clinical support by preparing rooms, ensure adequate supplies, restocking linen and scanning documents into PACS. Support technologist scan activities, including confirming patient status, verifying protocols, gain clarification, and communicate with clinical team/physicians/porters and other team members.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESo Preparing patients for studies (including answering patient questions, changing patients, reviewing preliminary patient history/screening)o Insertion and preparation of intravenous access lines (where trained and competent) under direction of technologist/radiologist;o Changing MRI coils, if required;o Receive patients from transport team, conduct basic Transfer of Accountability and communicate to the DI clinical technologist team;o Perform and Positive Patient Identification as per organizational policy;o Assist the technologist in patient transfers and patient positioning;o Assist in clinical documentation in RIS/PACS;o Work in collaboration with regulated and unregulated health care professionals in their assigned clinical area to monitor patient queues and ensure timely flow through scanning rooms;o Verify exam protocols and exam priorities;o Communicate with hospital units on patient procedure preparation and notify Technologists of patient schedules;o Review orders and supporting documents (e.g. bloodwork from HIS/Connecting Ontario) and report any concerns to the Technologist;o In discussions with the Radiologist and Technologist, schedule patients while collaborating with the in-patient unit or Emergency Department;o Handling of imaging equipment within scope of practice and competency;o Answer the phones in the assigned modality area and provide appropriate responses;o Accountable to ensure scan rooms are prepared for patient scan including but not limited to:o Ensuring the room has linen supplies, patient lines, injector syringes and contrast at beginning of shift and as needed during the day;o Review room supplies and retrieve required supplies for the room;o Place and retrieve stores orders of supplies, if required;o Obtain lines and sheets in areas.o Assist Radiologists with procedures (including sterile procedures)o Performs cross functional and other duties as assigned and/or requested.All staff are expected to carry out their assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner which prioritizes patient and employee safety and confidentiality.
