Lakeridge Health Board Member - Volunteer Position
Lakeridge Health is currently seeking individuals with diverse talents, who at a governance and strategic level, demonstrate a passion for health care, and experience contributing on Boards of non-profit organizations to join the Board of Trustees. Candidates should live in the broader Durham geographic community.

About Lakeridge Health
With five hospitals, four emergency departments, three critical care units, a full range of medical and surgical specialties, more than 20 community health-care locations and a state-of-the-art surgical centre within the Jerry Coughlan Health & Wellness Centre, Lakeridge Health offers some of the broadest and most comprehensive acute care, ambulatory care, and long-term care services in Ontario.
Lakeridge Health is home to several regional specialty centres and services, including the Central East Regional Cancer Program, R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, The Shoulder Centre, and eye care and chronic kidney disease services. Additionally, we are proud to serve our community with a full suite of inpatient, ambulatory, and community-based mental health and addictions services, and provide safe, high-quality, compassionate care in our state-of-the-art long-term care home, Lakeridge Gardens.
The Role
To complement the Board's current membership, priority will be given to individuals who have experience in one (or more) of the following competency areas: Information Technology, Quality Improvement and Assurance, Public Affairs & Communications, Government Relations, Corporate Business Management, Finance & Healthcare Administration (Community, Acute, or LTC), Research, and Clinical.

Time and Commitment
A director is expected to commit the time required to perform board and committee duties. The board meets approximately eight times a year. A director is expected to serve on at least one standing committee. Committees generally meet monthly. It is a 3-year term with re-election potential for 2 additional terms (maximum 9-year term).
As a member of the Board, each Director shall:
" Prioritize attendance at all Board and committee meetings
" Attend Board and committee meetings well prepared, having completed the necessary background reading and having consulted with other Directors and management, as required, to evaluate and add value to the agenda items presented
" Have the necessary time and commitment to fulfill responsibilities as a Director of Trustees
" Participate fully, frankly, and respectfully in board deliberations and discussions and contribute meaningfully and knowledgeably to Board discussions
" Understand the difference between governing and managing, and avoid encroachment on management's area of responsibility
" Communicate persuasively and logically, voice concerns, listen and raise tough questions in a manner that encourages open discussion
" Respect the confidentiality of Board deliberations and discussions
" Embrace and abide by the collective decisions of the Board
Conditions of the Role
The terms and conditions of Board members are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures. Lakeridge Health is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment and to preventing the transmission of COVID 19 infections among Lakeridge Health team members and our patients. New Lakeridge Health Board members will be required to provide proof of full vaccination for COVID-19, subject to any exemptions recognized under the Ontario Human Rights code.
