The successful candidate will work in Hematology, Biochemistry and Transfusion Medicine departments, playing a vital role in supporting our laboratory operations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:" Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces." Assist in the preparation of reagents." Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as needed." Sort, allocate, and deliver specimens to workstations, and load specimens onto instruments as appropriate." Receive, unpack, sort, and register specimens and inventory into the LIS system." Participate in basic quality control (QC) and inventory management." Preparation and staining of peripheral blood smears for evaluation." Distribution of prepared point of care reagents, strips, and user IDs" Documentation of required departmental temperature and timer recording. " Placing calls to replace sick and scheduling vacancies as defined in the collective agreement." Filling unexpected scheduling vacancies to meet clinical needs. " Support technologists and laboratory staff with various tasks, including data entry." Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment." Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with advancements in laboratory practices.QUALIFICATIONS:* Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant/Technician Program * MLPAO or CSMLS certification required. * Knowledge or technical experience in Hematology, Biochemistry or Transfusion Medicine is an asset. * Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work* Ability to work independently* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment* Advanced computer skills and aptitude are an asset; Microsoft Office applications and specialized laboratory programs.* Working knowledge of Leadership principles and practices; Demonstrates leadership skills that promote staff integration and multidisciplinary team functioning.* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy.* Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety, and participates in regular in-service education in this area.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) .
