ONANurse PractitionerTemporary Part Time (12 months)Mental Health & AddictionsDays, Evenings, Weekends - 8 and 12 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)Lakeridge Health Ajax-PickeringSalary $73.570 - $77.340 per hourONA - 2400002204DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Working as a member of a multi-site, inter-professional Crisis Intervention Team in the Emergency Department (ED), the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide psychiatric assessment and consultation services to youth and adults with mental health and substance use disorders in collaboration with the Psychiatry team. Based in ED, the NP will function with a high level of autonomy and expert skill in the management of ED patients referred to Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Program for consultation and assessment. Reporting to the MHA Program, the NP will assess and treat mental health needs.The NP is responsible for: autonomously diagnosing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests; prescribing pharmaceuticals and performing specific procedures within the legislated scope of practice; providing direct patient care focusing on health promotion, client centred care, and maximizing clients' safety and function during their participation in program services; actively participating in regular team meetings and in discharge decisions, liaising with community based and hospital providers, advocating on behalf of clients and their families and participating in inter-professional patient and family conferences as needed.The successful candidate will also have opportunities to participate in professional development and continuing education to maintain clinical competence and to maintain optimal quality of care to clientsQUALIFICATION:* Current RN (EC) registration with the Ontario College of Nurses, with a Nurse Practitioner certificate in Acute Care or Primary Care;* Masters of Nursing required;* Member of the RNAO and the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario;* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario and experience in upholding the rights of patients certified under the Mental Health Act;* 2+ years experience in the area of MHA care and related prescribing required;* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively on an inter-professional team and with community partners;* Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively;* Committed to client-centred and trauma informed practices with a collaborative approach to clinical work*Ability to interpret, apply and communicate relevant policies and procedures*Knowledge and proficiency in current evidence-based mental health care and practices with an emphasis on health promotion and risk reduction;* Must have satisfactory performance record;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and;* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard;CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) .
