New Graduates and recently registered Internationally Educated Nurses who complete the NGG and are successful will be offered Permanent Full-Time position with our Medicine Department.Participation in the NGG program is open to New grads and internationally educated nurses within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Nurses participating in the NGG will be partnered with an experienced nurse for the duration of a 12 week period during their transition to practice period. After successful completion nurses transition into the Full Time Permanent position within the Medicine Program. The eligibility criteria is as follows:Canadian educated nurses who:* Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a diploma from a practical nursing program in Canada* Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO* Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice periodInternationally educated nurses who:* Completed their nursing education outside of Canada* Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO* Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice periodBenefits of the NGG program at Lakeridge Health* Mentorship from an experienced Nurse* Extended orientation and additional support while transitioning into Nursing* Opportunity to transition into a permanent FT position within the Medicine Department upon successful completion of the NGG Program* Experience working with talented, dedicated, and compassionate team of NursesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Utilizing the nursing process to provide safe, competent care to assigned patients; using a systematic problem-solving approach to assess the condition and identify the needs of the patient; observing and enforcing aseptic technique and infection control principles required in the prevention of nosocomial and communicable diseases; developing a plan of care for patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (within good standing and must provide annual registration);* Current BCLS;* Coronary Care I course (Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation) required OR must enrol within 3 months of commencing in position and successfully complete within 12 months of commencing in position (reimbursement for the cost of the course will be provided upon providing proof of completion);* Recent related clinical experience in general medicine and surgical care nursing;* Recent experience in an acute medical/surgical/cardiology unit preferred* Proven cardiac rhythm and patient assessment skills (tested)* Critical Care Certificate course or equivalent experience preferred* Demonstrated wound management and pain management skills;* Knowledgeable regarding the application of health and safety and infection control principles as it applies to the role of RN;* Sound knowledge and application of nursing skills as listed in the C.N.O.
