HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

Salary: $32.280 - $34.080 per hour

This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing November 14, 2023 and closing at 11:59 p.m. on November 21, 2023.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Outpatient Coding Specialist will be responsible for accurately coding and electronically abstracting administrative and clinical information from Outpatient records in accordance with national and provincial coding standards. The coding specialist will participate in departmental and corporate continuous quality improvement (CQI), and promote data quality through coding and reviews. This is a corporate position and workload may require the individual to travel and work out of any Lakeridge Health site.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*Graduate from an approved Health Information Management program;
*Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM), and active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA);
*Previous 2-5 years' experience coding NACRS records;
*Knowledge of other coding disciplines considered an asset;
*Proven knowledge of ICD-10-CA and CCI (coding test required);
*Proven knowledge of current CIHI NACRS Abstracting requirements and correct application of Canadian Coding Standards;
*Proven knowledge of Quality Based Procedures and Comprehensive Ambulatory Care classification system (CACS) and its methodology;
*Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite- Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.
*Demonstrated ability to meet departmental standards in coding and abstracting;
*Demonstrated effective keyboarding skills;
*Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet large workload demands in a timely fashion;
*Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to support HIM's team work approach;
* Knowledge of Epic, Meditech, and 3M abstracting is considered an asset;
* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and
* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
