OPSEULAKERIDGE HEALTHREGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST x2CORPORATE RESPIRATORY SERVICESREGULAR PART TIMEDays/Evenings/Weekend Schedule; 8 & 10 Hour shifts (subject to change)Community Respiratory Services - Courtice Clinic(The home base is Lakeridge Health Courtice Clinic, the individual in required to provide patient care in the patient home as well as in the clinic)SALARY: $32.99 - $45.56 per hourOPSEU 2100004255/4256DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will provide a wide range of therapeutic and technical duties in support of operations of Community Respiratory Services (CRS). The primary function of the role is to assess patients to determine their medical needs and therapeutic requirements as associated with the provision of home oxygen therapy, respiratory device therapies and PAP therapy. The therapist will possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of chronic and acute respiratory disorders, respiratory interventions, diagnostic procedures and devices related to sleep apnea and oxygen therapy. The Respiratory Therapist will be able to assist the clients in optimizing their CPAP and oxygen therapy equipment for the management of their disorder. The Respiratory Therapist will oversee all technical and therapeutic system requirements associated with the Home Oxygen/Assistive Devices (HOP/ADP) Programs, including home/portable/emergency oxygen systems, continuous positive airway pressure/auto-titrating positive airway pressure/bi-level positive airway pressure (CPAP/APAP/BiPAP) systems. * Provide excellent customer service to home oxygen and CPAP clients * Assess the client's medical needs and determine the appropriateness of the oxygen therapy prescription at rest, sleep, and with exertion; and if necessary, arrange for appropriate order by referring physician * Assess the client's medical needs and determine the appropriateness of the oxygen therapy delivery systems; and if necessary, arrange for alternative oxygen delivery systems that meet the client's medical needs * Provide expertise and any necessary training and education to the client, family, and caregivers on how to operate and use home oxygen therapy and the oxygen delivery systems in a safe manner, and how to avoid the risks from improper use of home oxygen therapy and the oxygen delivery systems* Perform oximetry studies and arterial blood gas testing for the purpose of confirming medical eligibility, as prescribed by the physician* Review and assist clients to complete the Home Oxygen Program application* Document assessments, prescriptions, and patient care plans; and communicate findings with referring physician* Provide expertise and any necessary training and education to the client, family, and caregivers on how to operation of CPAP/APAP/BiPAP delivery systems* Initiate CPAP, APAP, and/or BiPAP therapy as prescribed by a physician * Assess and properly fit CPAP, APAP and BiPAP interfaces* Clean and maintain loaner CPAP/APAP/BiPAP systems* Provide expertise and any necessary training and education to the client, family, and caregivers tracheostomy equipment * Maintain corporate vehicles* Provide excellent customer service by assisting with managing client flow through public locations, assisting clients with supplies, answer client questions, answer phone calls, receive and deliver messages, facsimiles as required* Additional duties as assigned in accordance with the OPSEU Collective Agreement QUALIFICATIONS:* Diploma in Respiratory Therapy* University degree an asset * Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapy of Ontario* Current BCLS* Clear vulnerable screening check* Incident free drivers abstract* Certified Respiratory Educator an asset* Experience in CPAP therapy an asset* Experience in the Home Oxygen Program an asset* Demonstrated to be an extremely motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in an inter-collaborative team environment* Proven problem solving and teaching skills* Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload requirement* Proven sound judgment and good observation skills* Previous clinical experience as asset* Knowledge of compressed gases and safe handling of gases* Knowledge of medical terminology, preferably related to respiratory therapy and practices* Effective communication skills both verbal and written while interacting with all staff, patients, families and organizations in the community* Ability to work productively despite distractions and interruptions with minimal supervision* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Must have a satisfactory performance record;* Demonstrated understanding of commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practice including staff safety, patient's safety and environmental safety; and* Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standardCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) .
