DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Unit Clerk is responsible for: performing a wide variety of clerical duties including maintaining patient charts; transcribing doctor's orders; facilitating the admission/discharge/transfer process; acting as a receptionist; maintaining a variety of statistical information for the unit; answering the telephone and taking accurate messages; calling in staff in accordance with the applicable collective agreements; assisting in coordinating staffing; inputting into the computer and writing reports; providing Unit Clerk coverage throughout LHPP campus programs and performing other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:* Medical Office Administration Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience;* Previous experience transcribing doctor's orders;* Proven knowledge of medical terminology (tested);* Good keyboarding skills (30 wpm tested);* Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (tested - basic level);* Proven experience/knowledge of both CUPE and ONA scheduling/staffing language and associated premium entitlements;* Proven experience in computerized Meditech Personnel/Payroll and Admissions Modules;* Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative;* Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize them;* Effective communication and interpersonal skills;* Physically capable of performing the work including reaching, bending, pulling; * Proven ability to work productively in a busy environment with many interruptions and distractions; * Must have a satisfactory Performance record;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area; and* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
