Reporting to the Manager, Public Relations & Digital Communications, the Advisor, PR & Community Engagement is responsible for communicating Lakeridge Health's Vision, strategic priorities and innovative programs in an enterprising and engaging way through media relations, public relations, solid and persuasive writing and stakeholder and community engagement. The successful candidate is at ease in the community, fostering strategic relationships with media, community partners and stakeholders. A highly skilled and experienced professional writer and storyteller, the PR & Community Engagement Specialist has a track record writing and communicating to diverse internal and external audiences and telling compelling stories. With a committed and dedicated team of more than 5,400 employees, more than 760 physicians and more than 1,600 volunteers, Lakeridge Health is Durham's largest employer and provides care to the more than 650,000 people living and working in Durham Region.Duties & Responsibilities:* In partnership with the Manager, PR & Digital Communications and other team members, develop, implement and execute Lakeridge Health's Public Relations & Community Engagement Planin support of Lakeridge Health's strategic priorities and goal of improving health in the community.* Serve as the primary media relations contact for Lakeridge Health. * Provide on-call, communications support, on a rotating basis, after hours. * Build relationships with key external stakeholders including the media, community groups, patients and families and partner organizations, as well as internal stakeholders including staff, physicians, leadership, volunteers, Foundations and community advisors. * Develop, write and edit tailored PR and media relations materials including news releases, speaking points, key messages, executive updates, presentations, and assist in the creation of corporate communications products such marketing materials, reports, newsletters, bulletins and digital content. * Oversee the media relations editorial calendar and ensure that media coverage is optimized through effective monitoring, benchmarking/evaluation practices and segmentation strategies.* Compile and distribute daily news clips.* Collaborate with the Digital & Social Media Strategist on integrated media and social media/digital communications and campaigns. * Contribute to the development and execution of issues management and crisis communications plans and responses.* Contribute to reputation management and brand strategies for Lakeridge Health and its leaders. * Manage strategic communications projects including developing work plans, resourcing and budget management. * Skilled at planning and management of a wide variety of events including event content, logistics and spokesperson preparation. Qualifications:* Undergraduate degree in journalism, communications or related field. * Post-graduate training in these or related fields preferred. * Minimum of three years relevant experience, with a preference in a hospital or large health care organization/health agency or consultancy setting. * Advanced skills and training in writing for a full range of stakeholders using different formats including internal publications, web and digital content, corporate reports and vehicles, marketing collateral materials, media materials, speeches and presentations. * Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to harness leading and innovative corporate communications and public relations practices to deliver outcomes. * Knowledge of the current and previous provincial health care system, health policy landscape and some knowledge, the local health care environment and exposure to health care operations. * Excellent strategic and critical thinking skills and judgement. * Strong ability to be flexible, resourceful and fully engaged in a changing and complex environment.* Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising innovative media relations, stakeholder relations/community engagement campaigns that align with Lakeridge Health's strategic priorities. * Interest in developing relationships and engaging with stakeholders.* Proven, hands-on experience in anticipating, mitigating and managing issues and crisis communications. * Strong interest and previous experience with community work in Durham Region appreciated. * Knowledge of Durham Region and specific knowledge of key communities and populations in the Lakeridge Health catchment an asset. * Must have a satisfactory performance record;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;* Proven good attendance record with capabilities of maintaining this same standard;CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
