The new Mental Health Unit at Ajax will provide an integrated and effective continuum of mental health service within the context of client and family focused care to adults living within our community. Care will be provided for individuals with severe mental illness and those experiencing acute mental health crises. We are now actively seeking enthusiastic professionals to join our team which will include Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Recreational Therapists, Clerks, and Psychiatrists. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team as it establishes its foundation within the community of Ajax/Pickering.The Mental Health Inpatient program will provide funding that may include paid tuition for the Mental Health Nursing RN/RPN Certificate from Durham College or for the CNA Certification Program exam from the Canadian Nurses Association. A commitment from the employee of 24 months working in the Mental Health program as a permanent employee is required.This position is open to ONA staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing July 12, 2019 and closing at 11:59 pm July 19, 2019.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred psychiatric and general nursing care and ensure the security and safety of the patients and maintain the CNO standards of nursing practice. You will be responsible for providing clinical care to patients on the inpatient mental health unit. Working within a primary nursing model, you will actively contribute to the treatment approach for the unit, perform assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care.QUALIFICATIONS:*Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);*A current B.C.L.S. certificate is required*BScN an asset; *Mental Health/psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is an asset*CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is considered an asset*Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CNO;*Demonstrated excellent knowledge of, and experience in group theories and dynamics;**Demonstrated knowledge of Community Mental Health Resources;*Proven completion of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour Program;*Ability to conduct Mental Health Assessment with excellent interviewing and communication skills;* excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop a therapeutic Nurse- Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team*Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required* demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour* ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary*Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.*Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;*Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety, and participates in regular in-service education in this area; and*Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.SALARY: $33.23 - $47.57 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified ONA staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
