The Application Consultant provides a key role in identifying opportunities for improvement related to the use and management of administrative, financial and clinical systems. The Application Consultant works collaboratively with other key stakeholders to gather clinical and business needs, perform workflow analysis, process design, testing, ongoing support, training and general maintenance of applications The Application Consultant also helps to align the clinical, administrative & financial systems with the organizational objectives and strategies and provides recommendations regarding the potential use of various information systems. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Works with clinicians, managers, physicians, clerical staff and others to identify opportunities for improvement in information management by acting as a key liaison between system users and vendors to improve access to information to meet departmental and organizational business objectives;* Works collaboratively to identify user requirements and prepare business and technical specifications; and where indicated translates requirements, specifications and rules into technical solutions;* Reviews new and existing clinical and business systems' features and functionalities and workflows and identifies any gaps, risks and/or opportunities;* Manages all aspects of Systems Lifecycle Model for the assigned information System(s)/ Solutions, from collection of user requirements through implementation and to evaluation;* Maintain and enhance custom Business solutions built using SQL Databases;* Designs, develops and implements new processes, information systems and enhancements including leading business processes re-design, addressing issues of change management, stakeholder buy in and user acceptance throughout the systems lifecycle;* Builds, configures, updates and maintains system dictionaries and menus within a newer version of Clinical Information System;* Prepares custom reports using various reporting tools;* The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in supporting large scale health care information systems and technologies. They will utilize their project management skills to execute on-time deliverables to the organization. A large focus on training is a key component in this position;* Leads or participates in activities related to software implementation, upgrades and enhancements;* Reviews recommendations and enhancements with key stakeholders;* Participates in the identification and development of training and materials to support information systems and delivers training to end users on new enhancements and system functionality;* Reviews, maintains and troubleshoots interfaces between systems with other Applications Consultants;* Manages, monitors and troubleshoots operational issues and requests using the ticket tracking system;* Creates test scripts, tests and implements new technical and/or workflow changes, bug fixes, enhancements and upgrades;* Investigates alternative solutions outside of applications which they support and the core Health Information System;* Provides input into the identification and development of policies and procedures;* Prepares and maintains support and troubleshooting documentation;* Escalates issues to managers as required;* Performs other position related duties as required.REQUIREMENTS: * University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Health Informatics or related field and/or 3-5 years proven extensive knowledge of computer system applications within a healthcare environment;* Proven experience in IT software application planning and development;* Experience working with the Oncology, Pharmacy, Laboratory Departments in a clinical setting would be an asset;* Proven knowledge of healthcare computer systems, preferably with a newer Clinical Information System;* Experience with HL7 interfaces and SQL Databases are assets;* Strong analytical skills with ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities;* Sound knowledge of and experience in systems analysis and design;* Knowledge and understanding of clinical and non-clinical processes;* Experience in process, assessment and redesign and documentation of clinical and non-clinical workflow; ability to document in Visio or similar tool;* Proven effective project management, planning and organizational skills;* Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws;* Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives;* Proven critical/strategic thinking skills;* Superior verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language;* Well-developed negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills;* The capacity to quickly gain credibility through personal style, demonstrated knowledge and professionalism;* Demonstrated documentation and educational teaching skills;* Proven ability to troubleshoot and analyze software and processes;* Strong customer service and interpersonal skills;* Highly self-motivated and directed;* Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions, sometimes in emergency situations;* Great attention to detail; * Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;* Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining the same standardSALARY: $38.65 - $43.42 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
