In this position you will have the opportunity to use your extensive knowledge and expertise to help us develop, implement and maintain innovative Laboratory Department practices that will meet the current and future needs of Lakeridge Health.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direction of the MLT, MLA Team Lead, Charge Technologist(s) or Manager, responsibilities include: blood samples collection from adults, children and neonates following proper procedures as outlined in the laboratory manual; performing ECG's; ensuring quality control, maintenance and troubleshooting of urinalysis and other laboratory instrumentation; receiving and preparing specimens for analysis; receiving and preparing specimens for referral to alternate Lakeridge Health sites and/or other referral laboratories, including Microbiology and Pathology specimens; booking appointments and receiving/registering patients; ensuring the cleanliness of equipment in the immediate work area; reporting any unusual incidents involving patients which occur in the performance of duties; following established safety and infection control procedures; and other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate from a recognized training facility (in good standing);* MLPAO (OSMT) and/or CSMLS Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician (MLA/T) certification required;* Recent experience in a full scope MLA role and the procedures involved in this area as required; e.g. specimen referral procedures, microbiology and pathology specimen handling, ECG procurement; * Proven previous Laboratory Assistant, phlebotomy and ECG experience in a hospital or medical laboratory setting;* Proven good organizational, prioritization and time-management skills;* Effective communication and interpersonal skills;* Able to work effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions;* Knowledge of infection control principles and practices;* Knowledge of WHMIS;* Current TDG certification preferred;* Must be physically able to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting walking and prolonged standing;* Good computer/keyboarding skills;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions;* proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standardSALARY: $25.92 - 29.88 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.If you are qualified for the above position, please apply online:https://careers.lakeridgehealth.on.caThe terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU 348 Bargaining Unit).Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
