CUPELAKERIDGE HEALTHLAUNDRY PORTERLAUNDRY SERVICE/SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAMREGULAR PART-TIME DAYS/EVENINGS/WEEKENDS; 8 & 4 hour shifts; subject to changeLakeridge Health Oshawa/WhitbyCUPE -1800001497 (Subsequent)DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Laundry Porter is responsible for: performing the count function to all end-user supply cart areas according to a defined schedule; information entered by hand-held device via computer system and transmits resulting requirement list to External Linen supplier; advises end-user department and Linen Manager if there are concerns; collects carts of soiled linen from designated locations throughout the hospital to be placed on trailer at loading dock; receives inbound shipment of carts of clean linen supply from external linen company, unloading linen carts from designated trailer and distributes carts to end customer locations throughout the hospital; performs routine top up inventory transferring remainder of linen onto incoming cart of clean linen; maintaining well organized presentation of clean linen on supply carts; assisting in maintaining acceptable linen inventory levels at end-user locations and in linen room; assisting in linen inventory count as required; perform laundry reprocessing of hospital owned garments & distribution of equipment garments to end-user locations according to a defined schedule; labelling garments as required; and other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Effective communication and interpersonal skills;* Knowledge of computerized inventory control systems (linen);* Knowledge of infection control procedures, particularly with respect to handling and processing linen;* Effective organizational, prioritization and time management skills;* Proven knowledge of WHMIS;* Proven attention to detail;* Effective problem solving skills in order to make decisions regarding quality;* Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative;* Physically capable of reaching, pulling, pushing, bending, walking extensively, lifting, carrying throughout the shift to accomplish tasks;* Proven ability to work productively in a busy environment with many interruptions and distractions;* Previous experience in a linen department, preferred;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; and* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.SALARY: $21.81 - $ 22.32 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364 (Clerical Bargaining Unit).Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
