Registered Nurse - Surgical Program

LAKERIDGE HEALTH

Position: REGISTERED NURSE
Department: CORPORATE SURGICAL PROGRAM
Status: REGULAR AND TEMPORARY PART TIME
Programs: PACU and OR
Schedules: 4, 8 and 12 hour shifts; Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends
Sites Available: Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Ajax Pickering

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PACU
Your duties include assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment. Using an advanced level of nursing practice and excellent observation skills, the PACU nurse monitors post-operative patient progress while recovering from local, regional, or general anesthesia

OR
Your duties will include immediate pre-operative, intraoperative and immediate post-operative care with regard to booked surgical procedures, assisting physicians, and other related duties.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

PACU**:
* Critical Care Course required
* Minimum 2 years recent experience in Post Anaesthesia Care or ICU required;
* Canadian Peri-anesthesia Nursing Certification preferred;
* Knowledge of NAPAN standards
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (required for Ajax Pickering)

OR/SURGICAL SUITE**:
* Recognized Operating Room course
* Significant recent experience in the Operating Room;
* CNA Perioperative Nursing Certificate, preferred;
* Knowledge of ORNAC standards of practice;

PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
* Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CON;
* Current BCLS certificate required; ACLS certificate is preferred;
* B.Sc.N preferred;
* Able to communicate information in an understandable, relevant and accurate manner;
* Ability to work independently on occasional shifts including on call;
* Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teaching skills;
* Sound judgement, excellent observation and patient assessment skills, tact and empathy;
* Able to perform appropriately in emergency situations;
* Ability to assess and provide related health education to patients and/or families and the health care team;
* Ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships using knowledge, tact, and empathy in a patient centered care environment;
* Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership and related clinical specialties;
* Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the Surgical Program;
* Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;
* Ability to wear personal protective equipment as regulated;
* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety; and,
* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining the same standard.
