As a change agent, expert clinician and collaborator, the Clinical Practice Leader supports and advances the goals and objectives of the hospital to foster excellent patient care. The responsibilities of the CPL are divided as 50% corporate responsibilities and 50% program responsibilities.Job DutiesCLINICAL AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE LEADERSHIP*Provides expert clinical consultation for delivery of patient care *Provides clinical leadership for education, clinical documents, projects, committees, etc. that fall within the CPL's area of expertise. *Provides education for skills and certifications beyond the principle expectations of practice and delegated controlled acts *Identifies and supports implementation of best practices*Develops and revises controlled documents and champions the document through the committee approval process.*Implements evidence based clinical practice documents (policies, procedures, order sets, etc.) to enhance patient care and achieve clinical excellence. *Evaluates impact of best practice changes, and recommends strategies and action plans for continuous quality improvement.*Provides a pivotal communication/change agent role to ensure staff receive current information and education related to best practices and facilitate their ability to adapt new changes .*Ensures consistency of practice within units and across sites to maximize quality patient care.*Collaborates with interprofessional team members to lead and/or participate in development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and revision of patient care processes using in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, professional practice standards, and best available evidence. *Fosters an Interprofessional collaborative approach to care of patients using the Canadian Interprofessional Healthcare Collaborative model and a Patient and Family Centred approach.*Collaborates with relevant stakeholders when planning new programs/policies in support of patient care. *Leads and/or is a member of program and hospital wide committees*Represents Lakeridge Health on external groups/committees as needed*Utilizes effective data-gathering techniques and data interpretation methods to identify performance gaps in service provided*Identifies trends in hospital performance outcomes and recommends changes to meet standards for patient care.*Observes for trends and potential system improvements and initiates quality improvement initiatives as needed.*Champions implementation and sustainability of all required accreditation standards at the unit level. Helps identify gaps for further program or corporate planning.*Participates and/or leads review of clinical issues, recommends and participates in implementing changes*Participates, at the unit level, in the evaluation process for new equipment/clinical products*Utilizes change theory to effectively implement change CLINICAL STAFF EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT*Conducts annual/ongoing needs assessments for educational and developmental needs of program staff*Leads and/or consults on development of corporate and program-based education initiatives (including orientation and continuing education)*Plans and delivers both intra- and Interprofessional education offerings *Develops accessible education opportunities to support staff participation*Uses a variety of adult learning strategies and evaluation techniques that are well aligned to the intended learning outcomes *Collaborates with and/or provides leadership to others in staff development roles on evidence-based teaching methodologies, adult learning principles and knowledge transfer strategies*Tracks mandatory skill recertification/education and areas of growth in clinical practice; *Promotes awareness of relevant in-house and external educational programs.*Identifies and supports teachable moments with frontline staff to enhance patient experience.RESEARCH UTILIZATION AND ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP*Utilizes best available evidence as the basis of all practice, education and professional leadership activities (e.g. practice projects, education classes, policy/procedure development)*Applies a broad range of theories and relevant research to education and practice*Evaluates present practice in light of current research findings*Takes an active role in research initiatives and works with the interprofessional team to facilitate implementation of best practice outcomes derived from research.*Collaborates with other members of the health-care team or community in identifying, conducting and supporting research that enhances or benefits practice.*Helps spotlight Lakeridge Health through activities such as presentations, publications and/or sharing of innovative and best practices externally*Develops effective relationships with major academic partners; engages in activities such as preceptorship of students, guest lecturing, cross appointments, etc. *Networks with professional networks for the purpose of best practice sharing and the promotion of quality care (e.g. Professional Practice Network of Ontario, Emergency Educator Network of Ontario, Women's & Children's Health Educators group, Ontario Critical Care Educators Network, Perioperative Nurse Educators of Canada, etc.HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT*Participates in recruitment*Supports staff participation in personal and professional career development.*Assists managers with performance appraisals of staff as required. *Performs clinical practice assessments, and identifies and provides educational support (where indicated) for performance issues and learning gaps. *Consults on and/or develops performance improvement plans with staff as appropriate*When applicable to the role, identifies and makes recommendations to the appropriateness of assignments of Nurses according to the College of Nurses three factor framework. *Works with human resources, occupational health, and manager to ensure a safe working environmentQUALIFICATIONS:*Current registration with a the College of Nurses of Ontario;*Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Education;*Master's degree strongly preferred, or evidence of working towards; *Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S) program;*Completion of ACLS and/or PALS an asset;*Proven experience in a practical/clinical role;*In-depth understanding of professional practice and patient care standards;*Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including educational program planning, development and evaluation;*Demonstrated experience with program planning and evaluation, and managing organizational change initiatives;*Demonstrated understanding of current theory and literature pertaining to intra and interprofessional practice and education; *Demonstrated leadership, team building, communication and interpersonal skills, creativity and adaptability in working with nursing staff, other health professionals and physicians to maximize quality patient care.*Simulation based education/training would be an asset;*Experience with online learning modalities would be an asset:*Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills;*Proven effective leadership and collaboration skills;*Demonstrated effective critical thinking, prioritization, and conflict resolution skills;*Demonstrated knowledge and application of research activities;*Ability to travel between LH sites;*Understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area;
