The Emergency Program at Lakeridge Health is actively seeking nurses who want to provide high quality, innovative care for patients and families within our community, encompassing one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Ontario. Emergency Nurses respond to the needs of the community ranging from stable, ambulatory patients to the critically ill. As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse you will collaborate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide optimum, holistic care to patients with diverse healthcare needs spanning all age groups. While certification or post basic education and experience in Emergency Nursing is preferred, we will consider qualified RN's with a commitment to continued education and lifelong learning.

LOCATION: Primarily Oshawa, but may also be assigned to the Port Perry or Bowmanville hospital site


Working 12-hour day/night shifts, the Emergency Department RN:

  • Provides professional nursing care within the Emergency Department.

  • Role models professionalism within nursing as evidenced by active engagement in unit and organizational activities.

  • Communicates effectively with good interpersonal skills with the health care team.

  • Demonstrates strong team work and adaptability and is seen as a resource person to the health care team.

  • Provides Consistently utilizes critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in providing high quality care that meets the psychosocial, physical and psychosocial needs of patients

  • This position is accountable for the quality of nursing care services delivered by self, and as a self-regulated professional maintains competence and professionalism relevant to current nursing practice.


    As a qualified Registered Nurse, you have a professional profile that includes:

  • Registration as an RN in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;

  • BScN preferred.

  • Current BCLS;

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario;

  • Recent significant Emergency / Critical Care experience, including paediatric experience, is preferred.

  • Successful completion of a patient assessment course and a dysrhythmia interpretation course including EKG interpretation.

  • Demonstrated I.V.therapy competencies.

  • Proven organizational, prioritization, critical thinking, problem-solving and teaching skills;

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills which include sound judgement, exceptional observation skills, compassion and empathy;

  • Commitment to successfully completing CNA Emergency Nursing Certification (ENC(C).

  • Critical Care, Emergency, PALS, TNCC, ACLS, and Triage Certification preferred;

  • Demonstrated ability to assume a charge or supervisory role;

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety, and participation in regular in-service education sessions.
