Non-UnionLIBRARY ASSISTANTStatus: Temporary Part TimeFile #: UN.EX. - 1400000848Location: Lakeridge Health Oshawa Programs: Library ServicesSalary: $ 21.805 - $25.972This position is open to Staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing August 21, 2014 and closing 11:59 pm on August 27, 2014.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Reporting to the Library Coordinator, you will perform a wide range of clerical and library-related duties essential to the efficient daily operation of the Library. This includes providing support and assistance to the Library Coordinator by: " providing document delivery and processing of interlibrary loan requests (articles and books)" assisting with collection development and maintenance of library materials, both manually and electronically" supporting circulation activities and access to print and electronic formats" responding to requests for assistance in the use of the online catalogue, electronic databases, books, journals and other print and e-resources" processing and maintaining journal renewals, records and library statistics" preparation of promotional materials and displays" minor troubleshooting of computer terminals, fax machine, scanner, printers and photocopier" assisting in training and supervising students and volunteers" maintaining inventory and ordering library supplies" performing other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:" Library and Information Technician diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience" Recent library work experience required, preferably in a health sciences library" Demonstrated working knowledge of library principles and practice" Experience with automated library systems" Experience in searching online indexes and databases" Knowledge of medical terminology " Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (tested)" Proven typing skills (40 wpm tested)" Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines" Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)" Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; and" Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Hospital's policies and procedures.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
