This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 25 August 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 1 September 2026.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to Lab manager, this role will include the oversight of the Hematology program at all Lakeridge sites. The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist will also be responsible to facilitate specified and assigned technical or operational processes at all Lakeridge sites. As an integral member of the Laboratory Team, the Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist responsibilities include: utilizing practical and theoretical knowledge to perform laboratory procedures as outlined in standard operating procedures; guiding, organizing and distributing workload among assigned technical staff to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory; ensuring quality control standards are maintained; demonstrating understanding of operational theories/procedures, performance characteristics of instruments/equipment to facilitate the effective and efficient operation of the laboratory; participating in professional development, teaching/education activities, safety and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of Laboratory Services; performing cross-functional duties; performing other duties as required.

The position will also provide leadership as a Clinical Educator for student Medical Laboratory Technologist and other staff members. Key responsibilities include:

* Coordinating training schedules
* Providing hands-on teaching, coaching, and supervision
* Completing student evaluations and providing feedback to support development
* Preparing case studies, assignments, and competencies
* Facilitating and providing guidance on student projects
* Supporting designated trainers in effective teaching and evaluation practices
* Contributing to the training and development of trainers, including standardizing teaching approaches and expectations

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);
* ART, Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent, an asset;
* At least 5 years of technical experience Hematology;
* Demonstrated teaching and mentorship skills in all areas of laboratory;
* Demonstrated ability to implement and sustain change developed from process improvement methodologies;
* Knowledge of the theory and practices of laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques in Hematology;
* Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills;
* Effective time management skills; ability to organize work and set priorities for self and others;
* Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills;
* Proficient with Microsoft Office computer programs and EPIC;
* Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently as both a leader and team member within a multidisciplinary fast paced environment;
* Demonstrate ability to share knowledge/teach/instruct others;
* Must have a satisfactory performance record;
