This is Lakeridge Health!The Clinical Genetics Program at Lakeridge Health (Oshawa) is looking for a motivated Genetic Assistant (GA) to support our regional clinical genetics program. Our patient population consists of general (including paediatric), cancer, and prenatal patients referred for a variety of hereditary conditions across the lifespan. The successful candidate will interact with patients and assist in administrative and technical duties that support the day-to-day duties of the geneticists and genetic counsellors. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direction of the Patient Care Manager and Operations Coordinator, the GA will work in collaboration with the genetics team to ensure patients have a streamlined and positive experience during all genetic services, from receipt of referral to follow-up and Discharge. This position supports the Geneticist and Genetic Counsellors (GC) with defined clinical and administrative tasks. Duties include interactions with patients and internal/external stakeholders, to ensure that all required information is prepared and organised for patient appointments, including follow ups. The GA will be responsible for or assist with data entry, pedigree drawing and risk assessments, preparation of requisitions and coordination of testing, tracking of pending test results, investigations and referrals, as well as any other related duties assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:" Completion of a Bachelor of Science in biology or genetics from an accredited university, or equivalent; required" 1 to 3 years' experience in medical genetics, molecular biology, human genetics an asset" Interest in pursuing a career in human genetics considered an asset." Knowledge and experience with accessing documents in OnBase, Connecting Ontario, EPIC; preferred" Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology; preferred " Knowledge and experience with Word, Excel, MS Teams and Outlook" Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and work productively amid interruptions while working within a stressful environment" Proven ability to maintain strict adherence to patient confidentiality;" Exceptional communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, patients, and families;" Must have satisfactory performance record" Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy" Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area.At Lakeridge Health, we value inclusion and diversity.
