CUPEJob Title: Outpatient Coding SpecialistStatus: Regular Full TimeDepartment: AbstractingProgram: Health Information Mgmt8 Hour Shifts, Days Schedule (Subject to Change)Location: Lakeridge Health Corporate OfficeWage Schedule: $34.250 - $36.160 per hourPosting Reference: 2500001944This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing July 3, 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on July 10, 2025.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Outpatient Coding Specialist will be responsible for accurately coding and electronically abstracting administrative and clinical information from Outpatient records in accordance with national and provincial coding standards. The coding specialist will participate in departmental and corporate continuous quality improvement initiatives and promote data quality through regular coding reviews and audits. This position will work out of the corporate office with the opportunity to work from home once fully trained.QUALIFICATIONS:*Graduate from an accredited Health Information Management program;*CHIM Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management, and active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA);*Previous 2-5 years' experience coding NACRS records (emergency, day surgery, or oncology);*Knowledge of other coding disciplines considered an asset;*Proven knowledge of ICD-10-CA and CCI (coding test required);*Proven knowledge of current CIHI NACRS Abstracting requirements and correct application of Canadian Coding Standards;*Proven knowledge of Quality Based Procedures and Comprehensive Ambulatory Care classification system (CACS) and its methodology;*Experience working with Epic, 3M abstracting, Codefinder, and Computer-Assisted Coding considered an asset;*Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite*Demonstrated ability to meet departmental standards in coding and abstracting;*Demonstrated effective keyboarding skills;*Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet large workload demands in a timely fashion;*Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, within a team environment*Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to support HIM's team work approach;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
