Manager Environmental ServicesStatus: Regular Full TimeDepartment: Environmental Services Program: Environmental Services8 Hour Shifts, Days Schedule (Subject to Change)Location: Oshawa (Subject to Change)Wage Schedule: $49.490 - $67.130 per hourFile Number: 2500001296POSITION SUMMARY:The Environmental Services Manager is accountable for managing the daily operations and overseeing/leading the work of the following support services: Environmental Services, Patient Transportation and Waste Management. Ensuring each service is delivered to a high standard and in accordance with all legislation, regulation and policies and procedures. The role includes management of human, financial, and material resources to ensure that the needs of the corporation are effectively met. As well as managing various projects requiring input from the Environmental Services portfolio. The Manager will promote high quality service and ensure that Lakeridge Health has a safe, clean environment for patients, staff and visitors. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Actively manage a large volume of staff including non-unionized and unionized personnel;* Recruitment of new hires within program, interview, on-boarding, train and evaluation during probation;* Ensure adherence to the Collective Agreement and good labour practices are put in place;* Ensure that organizational policies and procedures are regularly reviewed, updated, and effectively communicated;* Develop and maintain leader and staff schedules, ensuring service needs are met and payroll is completed accurately and in a timely fashion and is in alignment with Collective Agreement;* Actively manage performance of staff including performance related concerns: investigations, progressive discipline up to an including termination;* Attend grievances at all stages, representing the Corporation at Mediation/Arbitration;* Ensure adherence to the Hospitals Attendance Management Policy, to effectively manage sick time, which includes developing modified and return to work plans;* Provide key stakeholder support in Collective Bargaining;* Develop and implement a standardized training program for all staff and annual training for existing staff;* Manage workplace accommodations and return-to-work programs to support employee health and safety;* Analyze staffing needs for current state and future state;* Coach and mentor supervisors within team;* Complete Performance Appraisals and work plans.Operational Oversight:* Responsible for planning and maintaining work systems, procedures, and policies that enable and encourage the optimum performance of the staff and resources related to the department;* Planning and coordinating daily cleaning schedules, assigning tasks, and monitoring cleaning quality across facilities;* Provide expertise on the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), ensure SOP's are up to date and revised as required;* Review job routines, programs and systems to ensure alignment with operational needs, support of patient flow and continuous quality improvement;* Meet and check-in with the internal programs/departments on a regular basis and attend meetings as requested;* Interact with suppliers and vendors as it relates to portfolio;* Take the lead and support special projects that require input from Environmental Services;* Training and mentoring on-site leadership team to foster a culture of excellence;* Provide education to front line staff and Supervisors for continued process development and efficiencies;* Work with internal departments/programs, external vendors to ensure safe effective delivery of services;* Work with Teams on opening new units/spaces/changes in clinical services; planning for changes in departmental services and/or providing costs for services;* Partner with other Managers to address concerns and respond to requests as needed;* Represent Environmental Services on internal committees/projects;* Participate in requests for proposals process and ensure compliance with established contracts, as required.Compliance Management:* Ensuring adherence to all relevant environmental regulations, including waste disposal guidelines, sanitation standards, and safety protocols; * Act as the main liaison with the Environmental Public Health Officer and other regulatory bodies, as applicable as it relates to environmental services.Quality and Safety:* Implementing and conducting regular inspections to monitor cleanliness standards, identifying areas for improvement, and addressing issues promptly; * Develop action plans to integrate technology to improved infection control outcomes, utilizing new technology and process;* Continuous involvement with external partners to ensure education and current trends and benchmarking are up to date;* Review incident reporting system reporting/data (WeCare) and create prevention plans for improved processes that contribute to the safety of staff, patients and the environment;* Analyze data via EPIC to find efficiencies for timely movement of patients, to support overflow, surge and patient flow at all sites;* Implementation and oversight of corporate quality improvement programs for department;* Work in conjunction with Infection Control Prevention and Control (IPAC) to ensure adequate disinfection practices are implemented and enforced;* Develop and cascade key performance metrics including staffing levels, budgeted hours, and labor costs; turnover time; hospital-acquired infections; inspection audits and safety events.Budget Management:* Overseeing the environmental services budget, including equipment maintenance, supplies, and labor costs. Policy Development:* Ensure Policies are up to date and reflect key roles in all aspects of the Environmental Services Department;* Creating and updating cleaning procedures and protocols to maintain high sanitation standards particularly with respect to cleaning practices and waste disposal.Equipment Management:* Ensure cleaning and waste management equipment is maintained and proper inventory levels of cleaning supplies are available;* Work in conjunction with appropriate departments such as facilities, biomedical engineering departments with respect to the inventory and maintenance of patient transport equipment.Reporting and Anaylsis:* Develop annual departmental program plans that connect with annual business of the organization;* Generating reports on cleaning performance metrics, identifying trends, and presenting data to relevant stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:o Undergraduate degree, college diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience o 5+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in an acute healthcare settingo Certification in Environmental Services Management (CESM) or related credential is an assetLeadership and Management Skills:o Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and resolve conflicts. o Previous experience working in a unionized environmento Extensive experience and knowledge preparing and managing operating budgetso Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as requiredo Demonstrated strategic, business and operation planning experienceCleaning and Sanitation Expertise:o Comprehensive understanding of cleaning procedures, chemicals, and equipment used in various facility typesCompliance Knowledge:o Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and safety standards. o Thorough working knowledge of labour relations, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Standards, infection control guidelines (PIDAC, ORNAC, AORN, Pharmacy and Medical Device Reprocessing) and WHMISo Working knowledge of accreditation standards and sustainability best practiceso Ability to establish/maintain quality assurance standards and programsCommunication Skills:o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, management, other departments, suppliers and vendors. o Excellent computer skills, and experience with Excel, PowerBI, EPIC is an assetProblem-Solving Abilities:o Ability to identify and address issues promptly and efficiently.
