CUPEJob Title: Personal Support Worker - BSO (subsequent)Status: Temporary Part Time (6 Month Contract)Department: AJAX LTC RESIDENTIAL LONG STAYProgram: Long Term CareDays, Evenings, Weekends; 8 Hour Shifts (Subject to Change)Location: Lakeridge Health Long Term Care APWage Schedule: $31.010 - $32.350 per hourPosting Reference: 2500000369This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 6 February 2025 and closing at 11:59 pm on 11 February 2025.POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to Nursing Leadership, the Behavioural Support Personal Support Worker will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to provide care to residents at the Lakeridge Gardens 320 bed Long-Term Care home built on the Ajax-Pickering hospital site.Having opened in March 2022, this new home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care and other important innovative features.Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, the new long-term care home will be integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario.Duties and Responsibilities:*Assist in enhancing the quality of life for residents with responsive behaviours*Providing 1:1 support care for residents having responsive behaviours when needed*Observe and report changes in residents' physical, mental and/or emotional condition promptly*Ensure there is a current plan of care in place for the resident with responsive behaviours that directs the staff in providing care and mitigating risk to the resident, other residents, staff, and care providers*Liaise with external partners to support resident-centred care*Communicate to the care team any areas of risk associated with responsive behaviours*Assist to design care routines for residents' responsive behaviours around care*Assist at feeding in dining rooms where responsive behaviours are of concern*Meeting resident's needs and assisting staff with activities of daily living when needed by: assisting with residents belonging; giving bed, tub baths and showers to those requiring assistance; assisting with personal grooming; feeding totally dependent residents and assist others with their meals; assisting in the ambulation and toileting of residents; making residents' beds; changing linens*Assisting in the maintenance of optimal safety standard to ensure the safety of residents and other staff*Following the occupational health and safety requirements of the position and reporting any injury or occupational hazards to immediate supervisor.QUALIFICATIONS:*Successful completion of a 1 year Personal Support Worker program from an accredited Community College or educational institution accredited with the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC)*Two years of experience in a long term care environment is required and one year working in secure unit or home area with residents with responsive behaviours associated with dementia*demonstrated proficiency with DOS documentation is preferred*Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) is required*Training in Dementia Care, U-First! and Montessori an asset*Demonstrated compliance with and knowledge of safe work practices*Proven communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to follow both oral and written instructions*Demonstrated empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and services for residents*Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the job*Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 6 months*Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this areaCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
