The Human Rights Officer will play a critical role in our organization, tasked with investigating and resolving complex human rights complaints. They will lead the development of standardized processes, ensuring fairness and efficiency in addressing grievances. Additionally, they will educate our team and stakeholders about harassment and discrimination, helping everyone understand their serious effects. By nurturing a culture of fairness and inclusion, human rights officer will support Lakeridge Health to stand strong as a place of integrity and respect.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Investigate IDEAA human rights-related discrimination complaints following Lakeridge Health policies, procedures, and the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC).* Conduct thorough research, analysis, and investigations to ensure consistent, impartial, timely, and fair resolution of IDEAA human rights-related incidents/complaints.* Assist in finalizing settlement agreements related to IDEAA human rights complaints in collaboration with HR, offering neutral, unbiased, and confidential support throughout the process.* Monitor the implementation of recommendations to address incidents/complaints, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.* Collect and maintain data to identify systemic trends and develop strategies to prevent human rights violations.* Proficiency in early resolution techniques is highly valued.* Provide OHRC interpretation, advice, and guidance to Lakeridge Health team members and stakeholders to support the resolution of harassment/discrimination complaints.* Prepare annual reports and recommend system improvements through collaboration with Human Resources and IDEAA Inclusion Diversity and Equity leads.* Draft or assist in organizing complex IDEAA human rights-related investigation reports, including findings, analysis, and recommendations.* Serve as a liaison between Lakeridge Health, HR, Unions, and third-party external investigators or legal/consulting firms as needed.* Develop and deliver human rights education, including organization-wide and customized trainings on Lakeridge Health's Human Rights Policy and ProceduresQUALIFICATIONS:* University degree in a relevant field such as Human Rights/Equity, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Law, or commensurate work experience.* Previous experience in human rights within a large unionized public sector setting.* Proficiency in managing human rights and workplace harassment complaints, including fact-finding, assessment, case management, and conflict resolution.* Skilled in conducting harassment/discrimination investigations and mediations.* Familiarity with progressive human rights and workplace harassment prevention practices, including relevant legislation such as the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and Employment Standards Act.* Proven track record in promoting equitable practices that prioritize inclusiveness and diversity.* Understanding of issues impacting marginalized groups and experience engaging with diverse communities in an anti-oppressive/anti-racist manner.* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.* Excellent oral and written communication skills to draft concise agreements, comprehensive reports, and facilitate training sessions.* Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.* Capacity to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.* Proficiency in computer skills including word processing, databases, and case management software.* Other Requirements include: Willingness to travel across Lakeridge Health sites as needed; Commitment to core values including Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Joy; Understanding of and dedication to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs, including participation in regular in-services.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
