In this position you will have the opportunity to use your extensive knowledge and expertise to help us develop, implement and maintain innovative IPAC Department practices that will meet the current and future needs of Lakeridge Health.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:As the Infection Control Associate (ICA) you are responsible as experts in the prevention and control of healthcare associated infection. The ICA will participate in the planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements and contributing to an effective and progressive Infection Prevention and Control Program within the patient safety focused environment. Travel between IPAC program sites often required.The ICA role is defined and evaluated in accordance with the Lakeridge Vision, Mission and Values, as well as, the APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) Conceptual Model using the following core competencies: Identification of infectious disease processes with consultation to all stakeholders, surveillance and epidemiologic investigations, preventing/controlling the transmission of infectious agents, risk management and communication, education and research and performing hand hygiene practices.The ICA will continue to develop competency of practice from Novice to Expert in these four domains:1. Leadership (collaboration, followership, critical thinking, communication)2. Infection prevention and control (epidemiology and surveillance, risk assessment, risk reduction and infection prevention, use and interpretation of diagnostic tests, antimicrobial stewardship, education, research)3. Technology (information technology, surveillance technology, EPIC, proficiency with Outlook email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)4. Performance improvement and implementation science (identification of need, teamwork, tools and methods, implementation, measuring success)QUALIFICATIONS:*Current Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control, and Epidemiology, Inc.(CBIC) preferred;*BScN, or equivalent combination of education and experience;*Proven experience in an acute care hospital or long term care settings*Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, current B.C.L.S.; or other professional college;*Proven knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases, epidemiology and statistical analysis;*Proven leadership skills, evident innovative skills and proven ability to foster a collaborative team approach for decision making;*Demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of adult education;*Strong analytical skills including the ability to collect, analyze, share and interpret data with proficiency utilizing all Microsoft Office programs;*Experience and knowledge in clinical research and infection control issues as they relate to patients and health care workers, outbreak investigations;*Knowledge of annual influenza program and vaccinations, as well as documented medical allergy;* Must have satisfactory performance record;*Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services and participation in regular in-services in this area; and*Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standardCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
