MEDICAL UNIT
TEMPORARY PART TIME
Day and Weekend Schedule; 4, 8 & 12 hour shifts; subject to change
Lakeridge Health Bowmanville
SALARY: $25.12 - $26.26 per hour



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Unit Clerk is responsible for acting as a receptionist while performing a wide variety of clerical duties such as: maintaining patient charts; facilitating the admission/discharge/transfer process; documenting and maintaining a variety of statistical information; transcribing physician orders; answering the telephone and taking accurate messages; inputting documentation into the computer and writing reports; and performing other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will need to have extensive knowledge of Lakeridge Health's relevant collective agreements. This position requires staffing and scheduling as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Medical Office Administration Diploma and previous relevant experience in a hospital clerical or doctor's office setting or equivalent combination of education and experience;
* Previous experience in transcribing doctor's orders;
* Knowledge of medical terminology (tested);
* Proven experience/knowledge re: staffing according to both CUPE and ONA Collective Agreements;
* Proven experience in computerized Payroll;
* Proven organizational, prioritization and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously;
* Knowledge of the Meditech admission and order entry modules;
* Good keyboarding skills 30 w.p.m. (tested);
* Introduction/basic word processing skills, preferably utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel (tested);
* Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills;
* Ability to work productively despite distractions and interruptions;
* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions; and
* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;
* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard;
* Must have a satisfactory performance record.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
