The pathologist assistant will report to the laboratory manager and supervisor for performance discipline, scheduling or other HR related issues. The Pathologist Assistant is responsible for describing and dictating the gross findings of specimens using the available protocol, taking representative sections for histological processes and assisting and performing ancillary special procedures on specimens and organs. QUALIFICATIONS;*Certified or the ability to become certified with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants(CCCPA)*Certification with ASCP is an asset. *Baccalaureate degree in Science with advance level courses in anatomy and physiology or Health Care Professional with experience in Histopathology *Prior experience as a Pathologist Assistant preferred *Flexibility to work both independently and as a direct assistant to the pathologists *Practical use of computer and computer assisted technology *Working knowledge of the Body Substance Precautions and good lab hygiene *Working knowledge of safe chemical handling, storage protocols and emergency spill procedures *Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills *Strong observation skills and exceptional attention to details *Cross functional duties within laboratory as required *Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community *Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound clinical judgement *Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing education and learning *Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;*Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public. *Demonstrated understanding of and, commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area*Demonstrated pattern of good attendance and work recordCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
