Days/Evenings ; 8 & 10 hour shifts (subject to change)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will use the nursing process to assist with the development and implementation of a plan of care for patients receiving treatment in the Durham Regional Cancer Centre. As a nurse in the Ambulatory Clinics/DRCC Brachytherapy OR, you will demonstrate professionalism and maintain competence in all aspects of patient care. You will maintain nursing records and perform other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
" Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
" B.Sc.N is preferred;
" Completion of a recognized Operating Room Nursing certificate required;
" Recent post anesthetic care experience required;
" Membership in RNAO, OPANA/ORNAC and ONS/CANO is an asset;
" Completion of de Souza Institute Foundations in Oncology Nursing Practice course or equivalent an asset. If you do not have this certification at hire, completion of certification within 6 months of hire
" Recent experience in Operating Room, 3-5 years required;
" Recent experience in Oncology Nursing (i.e. on an acute oncology floor, or ambulatory oncology clinic within the past 3 years) is an asset;
" Willingness to complete Canadian Nurses Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) or Oncology Nursing Society (OCN) when eligible to write (it is the expectation that the successful candidate will take the examination);
" Current B.C.L.S;
" ACLS an asset;
" Must have IV start certification, cardiac monitoring course and/or critical care certificate;
" Recent experience with HDR/Brachytherapy preferred;
" Evidence of continuing education in the area of oncology nursing an asset;
" CVADs (PICC/PORT) and wound care management skills an asset;
" Sound judgement, excellent observation and patient assessment skills;
" Familiar and comfortable with electronic documentation;
" Demonstrated commitment to maintain CNO Reflective Practice Standards;
" Demonstrated ability to work and perform in stressful and emotionally intense situation;
" Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal;
" Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with ability to foster good public relations in a family-centred care environment;
" Proven experience with providing symptom management over the telephone; an asset;
" Proven organizational, problem-solving and teaching skills;
" Physically capable of lifting, turning and transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;
" Must have a satisfactory performance record;

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participating in regular in-services in this area; and
" Proven good attendance record with ability to maintain this same standard.

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
