McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre, Pinewood Centre for addictions and mental health, and The Shoulder Centre.Lakeridge Health Emergency Departments see approximately 204,000 visits annually. Approximately 14,000 visits are specifically for mental health and addictions. We currently have an opportunity for two Physician Assistant to join the existing Physician Assistant program at Lakeridge Health.The successful applicant will provide clinical services under the direct supervision of psychiatrist and ED staff physicians and play a key role in supporting the patient experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* Perform a complete and appropriate clinical assessment of a patient and formulate a clinical treatment plan. Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics, chief complaint, history of the present illness or injury, past medical, surgical, family and psychosocial history, medications, allergies and systems review. * Obtaining, collating, and summarizing collateral information from hospital records (internal and external/requested) regarding history of illness and previous pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, efficacy and tolerability.* Develop and communicate diagnostic and treatment recommendations to the patient.* Administer and follow (with appropriate training) various psychiatric rating scales.* Formulate treatment plans and support appropriate connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics and support any other services/special needs for the patient.* Integrate all the core PA competencies to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centered medical care. * As an integrated member of the health care team and support to the psychiatrist, the successful PA candidates will have a strong desire for life-long learning, quality improvement, patient safety and collaborative team-based care.QUALIFICATIONS:o Graduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant Programo Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistantso Ability to work with an inter-professional healthcare teamo Passion for Psychiatry/Emergency MedicineCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.New Employees must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
