LAKERIDGE HEALTH Long-Term Care Home Position: Cook Program: Healthy Aging Status: Regular Part Time Location: Lakeridge Gardens LTC HomeShifts: Days/Evenings/Weekends, 4 and 8-hour shifts (subject to change)Salary: $24.34 - $24.87Posting: CUPE 2200003138POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Manager of Food Services LTC, the Cook will provide nutritious and appetizing meals that meet the individualized dietary needs of each resident at the Lakeridge Gardens 320 bed long-term care home built on the Ajax-Pickering site.This new home is part of the government's plan to improve long-term care delivery and capacity in Ontario and in the Durham Region. This state-of-the-art long-term care home sets a new bar for seniors' care, with dining and outdoor space on every floor, a large courtyard, onsite diabetes care, specialized care units and other important innovative features.Just as Lakeridge Health is a beacon in the Durham community, the new long-term care home will be integral to managing and delivering on the needs and expectations of seniors in the Durham community and Ontario. The Cook is responsible for:*Preparing and cooking nutritional, appetizing, and visually appealing meals in accordance to weekly menus, with special consideration to residents' personalized dietary requirements, needs, and requests including therapeutic diets, modified textures and individual nutrition interventions*Ensuring meals are served on time and at the correct temperature*Participating in the menu planning, taking into consideration resident feedback and satisfaction, seasonally available food, and special occasions*Assisting with ordering food from approved vendors and completing inventory, and monitoring the quality of food supplies received *Ensuring that work areas and kitchen equipment are regularly cleaned and maintained in a safe and sanitary condition, in accordance to health and safety requirements and standards*Labelling, dating, storing, and rotating food and beverage products in order to limit food waste and ensure only fresh ingredients are used*Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members *Performing other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: *Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cook from a recognized Apprenticeship program or College; or otherwise qualifed as outlined by the Ontario Long Term Care Homes Act*Red Seal Cook certification is preferred*A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate is required *Experience in large quantity food preparation and cooking in a Long-Term Care environment is preferred* Knowledge of sanitation, hygiene, food production, safety, as well as geriatric nutrition and therapeutic diets*Excellent time management and communication skills*Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 6 months*Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area*Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standardCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.At Lakeridge Health we value inclusion and diversity.
