Vacancy: Personal Support Worker
Status: Casual (Multiple positions available)
Hours: 8:00 - 16:00, 9:00 - 17:00, 10:00 - 18:00, 23:00 - 7:00, and weekends included
Location: - Durham Mental Health Services
Salary: $24.08 - $25.24
Working Details:
The Personal Support Worker - Casual will provide support to the residential program and its clients on a casual basis. This position is hired on a 'relief' basis. Shifts may be nights, days or weekends depending on the need
Willing and able to work report to work various shifts schedules, with short notice.
To support individuals with mental illness and/or addictions in making choices, developing skills, increasing independence and to become involved and connected within the community. Duties may include assistance with cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, laundry and attending community outings. Provides cognitive, social and/or emotional support to the client.
Qualifications:
" 2-3 years previous work experience as a PSW with a current PSW Diploma
" Current CPR and First Aid certification required
" Must be able to meet physical demand requirements of the role
" Experience supporting individuals with mental illness and/concurrent disorders
" This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's licence and use of a vehicle to transport clients. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof a valid driver's licence and 2 million dollar liability coverage upon hire.
" Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 12 months;
" Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and
" Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
" Basic knowledge of the major mental illnesses, addictions, and an understanding of the Mental Health Act, confidentiality, and the principles of client centered service delivery.
" Knowledge of the principles of life skills training, focused problem solving and intervention strategies.
" Assisting patients with physical care and promoting independence with activities of daily living
" Provide support to residents, modeling a positive attitude, utilizing affirmation and encouragement while integrating recovery concepts and client empowerment.
" Demonstrated reliability (attendance and punctuality), communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.
" Must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with clients, staff, families, and the public while being open, friendly, approachable, accepting and understanding.
" Strong attention to detail and confidentiality. Ability to work well under pressure.
" Must possess well developed client boundaries, communication, organizational, time management and coordination skills.
" Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques required.

" Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and;
" Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard;
