OPSEULAKERIDGE HEALTHMEDICAL PHYSICS SERVICE ENGINEERMEDICAL PHYSICSDURHAM REGIONAL CANCER CENTREFULL TIME8 HOUR DAY SHIFTS; SUBJECT TO CHANGE (Requires flexibility for overtime and call-ins)OPSEU-1900001091POSITION SUMMARY:Provides regular and emergency repair service and maintenance to equipment within the Radiation Oncology Program. Interacts with service personnel from equipment manufacturers to repair equipment during and outside of regular business hours. Implements and performs preventative maintenance routines for radiotherapy equipment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides engineering support service for equipment including linear accelerators, CT Simulators, high dose rate brachytherapy units, quality assurance equipment, dosimetry equipment and associated electrical equipment and computers; participates in preventative maintenance routines and quality assurance programs for all radiotherapy equipment; reads, analyses, interprets and follows signal flow on blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams; establishes and maintains a comprehensive range of test instruments, spare parts inventory and an up-to-date file of parts suppliers for all radiotherapy equipment; designs, constructs and repairs specialized electronic equipment required by Radiotherapy and Medical Physics; attends training courses for new or upgraded equipment as required; stays current with technology developments via self-study and peer to peer training; works safely in confined areas,(including high current/high voltage modulators (20 - 50 kV, 1500A) ), and on medical device producing high energy ionizing radiation; other duties as assigned by the Chief, Medical Physics.QUALIFICATIONS:* Three (3) year Electronic Technologist diploma from a recognized community college or equivalent combination of education and experience;* Willingness to satisfy the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's License requirements for Class II prescribed equipment servicing, including radiation safety training;* Willingness to be classified as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) as per the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Act and Regulations;* Specialized vendor (Elekta) service training for medical linear accelerator and associated peripheral components preferred;* Demonstrated experience with computers, analogue and digital circuits, high voltage RF systems, vacuum and electronic control systems, including micro-processor based systems;* Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions;* Strong mechanical aptitude and solid knowledge of mechanical systems;* Relevant experience in repair of radiation therapy equipment preferred;* Ability to respond to workload pressures, and to work evenings and weekends as necessary to maintain high quality patient care and operational readiness;* Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team;* Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including accurate and thorough documentation skills;* Knowledge of high energy ionizing radiation, high voltage systems and willingness to work in this environment and in confined spaces;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; and* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.SALARY: $31.87 - $42.71 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
