In this position you will have the opportunity to use your extensive knowledge and expertise to help us develop, implement and maintain innovative Laboratory Department practices that will meet the current and future needs of Lakeridge Health.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing duties including: collecting blood samples, performing ECG's, following proper blood collection techniques as outlined in the phlebotomy manual; ensuring correct patient identification prior to collecting and accurately labelling the samples; transporting of specimens to the laboratory for testing; reporting immediately, any unusual incidents involving patients which occur in the performance of duties; following established safety and infection control procedures; and other duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS:* Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate from a recognized training facility (in good standing); * OSMT and/or CSMLS Laboratory Assistant certification required;* Recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital or medical laboratory setting;* Proven effective organizational, prioritization and time-management abilities;* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills;* Proven strong team player abilities with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;* Knowledge of infection control principles and practices;* Physically able to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting and prolonged standing and walking;* Ability to work in a high paced environment with frequent interruptions;* Proven strong computer/keyboarding experience;* Experience with pneumatic tube transport systems, an asset;* Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions; and* proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standardSALARY: $24.28 - $27.95 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.If you are qualified for the above position, please apply online:https://careers.lakeridgehealth.on.caThe terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU 348 Bargaining Unit).Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
