The MIPC works collaboratively with management and subject matter experts to assist in identifying ergonomic hazards and incident root causes, and will recommend appropriate proactive intervention strategies for all LH colleagues at all LH locations. The MIPC works in collaboration with the Safe Patient Handling Specialist (SPHS) related to mitigating patient handling risks and incidents. The Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Coordinator will:* Using knowledge of MSIs, and considerations related to staff and patient safety, assess the interaction of LH colleagues with patients and equipment in the work environment and apply theory, principles, data and analysis to workplace design, process and body mechanics in order to develop prevention and early intervention strategies, and provide expertise in ergonomic hazard identification, analysis and assessment, along with making recommendations for strategies to control such hazards * Ensure that incident management and prevention plans promote musculoskeletal injury (MSI) awareness and prevention, and will track and analyze MSI statistics and use findings to plan programs and initiatives to mitigate musculoskeletal injuries at Lakeridge Health* Continue the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of proactive musculoskeletal injury prevention initiatives across LH * Develop and maintain the initial and ongoing education programs to meet the specialized needs of all LH programs in safe patient handling, general ergonomics and manual material handling education as needed.* Support the SPHS to:* Work with leaders and teams to schedule mandatory education and ensure sessions are accessible to those who require the training for all sites* Collaborate and consult with leaders, clinical staff and teams in achieving appropriate patient specific and/or unit specific safe patient handing and mobility solutions for challenging situations as they arise and provide support with education, trialing of equipment, and evaluating strategies to ensure staff and patient safety is maintained while delivering high quality patient care * Responsible for the Bariatric Equipment Program and consultation and management of ceiling lift equipment and associated contracts* Act as a subject matter expert for job hazard analysis, physical demands analysis, and workplace design* Participate in return to work strategies and interventions with employees who have sustained either a work related or a non-occupational MSI that impacts their ability to perform required patient handling duties of their job (as appropriate and requested by Directors, Clinical Managers, ACMS, OHN's and union representatives)* Consult and collaborate with the ACMS in cases of MSI with return to work reviews for staff by completing reviews of patient handling requirements, assessment of a job environment, and equipment in the clinical/patient care areas, to assist the ASCM team in matching of safe work environments for staff. * Consult with Clinical Directors, Managers in the return to work process for staff as it relates to physical injury and deconditioning and provide strategies to enable successful reintegration* As a member of the OHSW team, supports all LH Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) as an ad hoc member providing subject matter expertise, support for workplace inspections and provides training and support to committee members as required* Monitor new technology and developments, coordinate trials of new equipment and innovations that have the potential to prevent or reduce risk of injury related to patient handling * Support patient and staff safety while LH works to advance quality of care initiatives* Provide input and guidance related to the impact on preventing/reducing injuries to staff related to workplace design in patient care areas or patient care areas being built or renovated, and procurement of equipment* Assists in the maintenance of the MIPP intranet site* Ad hoc member of the Specs Committee, as required* Act as liaison with similar organizations to stay current on best/leading practices in healthcareRequirements* Completion of Bachelor of Science Degree, Regulated Health Professional in Rehabilitation Sciences preferred;* Minimum of 5 years' experience, in healthcare preferred, including experience in an in-patient setting;* Experience with Occupational Health & Safety requirements including safe patient handling, ergonomics, musculoskeletal injury prevention for clinical staff in a healthcare setting;* Experience in assessment and treatment of MSI's;* Adult education experience an asset;* Program development skills;* Ability to identify MSI risk factors, especially as they relate to patient handling;* Consultative, interpretative and investigative skills;* Excellent problem solving skills;* Innovative skills;* Project management and superior organizational skills;* Work collaboratively and delegate tasks as required;* Superior written and verbal communication skills;* Excellent presentation skills;* Excellent interpersonal skills;
