Non-UnionLAKERIDGE HEALTHSafe Patient Handling SpecialistOccupational Health, Safety & WellnessFull time, 8 hour days;Lakeridge Health OshawaUNEX: 1800000093Duties and Responsibilities:The Safe Patient Handling Specialist reports to the Director, Occupational Health, Safety & Healthy Workplace and will take guidance from and work collaboratively with the Safe Patient Handling Coordinator on safety initiatives related to Safe Patient Handling at Lakeridge Health. This role will identify ergonomic hazards and incident root causes, with a focus on those related to patient handling, and will recommend appropriate proactive intervention strategies for all colleagues at all LH locations. The Specialist will support incident management and prevention plans, specifically those related to patient handling, promote MSI (Musculoskeletal Injury) awareness and prevention; and, track and analyze MSI incident statistics to improve Safe Patient Handling practices and processes at Lakeridge Health. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of the Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MIP) education program known as the Back in Action (BIA) Program (primarily patient handling, but provide support as needed for general ergonomics, office ergonomics, and manual material handling). The Specialist will work with leaders and teams to schedule mandatory education and ensure sessions are accessible to those who require the training from all sites. The Specialist will also collaborate and consult with clinical staff and teams in achieving appropriate patient specific and/or unit specific safe patient handling and mobility solutions for challenging situations as they arise and provide support with education, trialing of equipment, and evaluating strategies to ensure staff and patient safety is maintained while delivering high quality patient care. This role will also support the Safe Patient Handling Coordinator with the Bariatric Equipment Program and consultation and management of ceiling lift equipment, and assist with the development of Job Hazard Analysis and audit forms to support an Internal Responsibility System. Qualifications:* Completion of Bachelor of Science Degree; Regulated Health Professional (in Rehabilitation Sciences preferred);* Minimum 5 years' experience in health care, including experience in an in-patient setting.* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with leaders and other care providers* Proven experience in Occupational Health & Safety requirements including ergonomics, safe patient handling, musculoskeletal injury prevention programs for clinical staff in a healthcare setting;* Proven experience in assessment and treatment of MSI's;* Demonstrated excellent organizational, prioritization, problem-solving and case management skills;* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and conflict management skills* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area; * Proven attendance with capability of maintaining the same standard.* Adult education experience is an asset* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service in this area; and* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standardSalary Range: $38.362 - $44.236 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
