Position Summary:Reporting to the Patient Care Manager of the Systemic Therapy Suite, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for ensuring safe, high quality patient care in systemic therapy and complex malignant hematology within the Oncology program. Through continuous supervision of care team members, the Clinical Supervisor promotes care that is patient centered, timely and efficient. The Clinical Supervisor enables care team members to coordinate and integrate services, encourages ongoing performance improvement, and maximizes the use of available resources to facilitate efficient and excellent patient care throughout the department.
Duties & Responsibilities:* Plans, organizes, and leads the activities of the department including; supporting and promoting a culture of professional growth, responsibility, respect and safety; performance recognition; and instilling an appreciation for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization.* Ensures staff resources are aligned to deliver complete and consistent patient centered care by: investigating and resolving complaints; aligning patient care needs to the needs of the department, other departments and external facilities; ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and standards of care; and collaborating with the team regarding scheduling, orientation, training and development.* Operationalizes the success of the department by: participating in the grievance process; anticipating and minimizing organizational and unit based barriers; setting performance goals for achieving maximum scope of practice; demonstrating effective working relationships; and partnering with the Patient Care Manager and Patient Care Specialist to ensure a collaborative work setting. The Clinical Supervisor will be the first point of contact for any clinical concerns and challenges within the unit.* Ensuring the smooth operation of the department by: daily scheduling and coordination of resources; ensuring supplies are adequately maintained; recommending and collaborating in the creation and implementation of policies; and continuously monitoring patient flow and chair utilization and will include other duties as assigned.* Supporting and facilitating the care for complex malignant hematology patients in accordance with best practice guidelines and Cancer Care Ontario. Services include: Ambulatory care visits and Coordination of care between Lakeridge Health and the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for shared care of acute leukemia patients and post stem cell transplant patients. Support ongoing nursing education and competency in the care of inpatient post stem cell transplant patients.* Manage, coordinate and oversee the delivery care for acute leukemia patients. Contribute to the continued creation of acute leukemia shared care program development and implementation and knowledge dissemination activities.
Qualifications:* Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;* Registered nurse currently with a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or a health-related discipline;* Canadian Nursing Association, Oncology Nursing certification preferred;* 2-3 years recent nursing experience in an oncology setting, with a minimum of 2 years of recent chemotherapy administration;* Masters in Nursing/Health Administration an asset;* De Souza chemotherapy biotherapy course preferred;* Evidence of ongoing education in the area of oncology nursing (e.g., workshops, seminars, etc.) ;* Demonstrated knowledge of hospital nursing functions and current trends in nursing and health care;* Proven flexibility, initiative, independent judgment and ability to be self-directed within scope of responsibility;* Demonstrated strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task;* Proven effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict management skills;* Proven effective problem solving and critical thinking skills;* Knowledge of and ability to work with Collective Agreements and Labour Relations issues;* Proven capacity to quickly gain credibility through personal style and professionalism with proven capacity to nurture and mentor others;* Demonstrated strong presentation skills;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Compassion, Innovation, Courage and Trust;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; and,* Proven good attendance with the capability of maintaining this same standard.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:This position is open to all qualified staff throughout Lakeridge Health.The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
