OPSEULAKERIDGE HEALTHPHARMACY TECHNICIANPHARMACY DEPARTMENTREGULAR PART TIME8 hour Day/Evenings; Weekend ShiftsLakeridge Health Oshawa(While the primary campus is Lakeridge Health Oshawa, workload will require the individual to travel to and work at Lakeridge Health Whitby)OPSEU-1400000258This position is open to OPSEU staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencingMarch 27, 2014 and closing by 11:59 pm on April 3, 2014.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:To work under the supervision of the Pharmacist, duties will include filling of new prescriptions, refill prescriptions, ward stock, night cupboard, narcotics and LOA medications; screen phone calls and direct drug information/clinical questions to distribution pharmacist; return stock of medications from discontinued inpatient prescriptions; prepare sterile products as required; maintain statistics for work-units produced in all areas of department; and inpatient prescriptions, ward stock and other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:*Pharmacy Technician Diploma/Certificate from a Community College (non CCAPP Accredited) preferred and Pharmacy Technician certification from the Ontario College of Pharmacists or Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) Evaluating Examination;*Graduate from a Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program preferred;*LH Technicians must complete registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists by January 1, 2015;*demonstrated proficient keyboarding skills;*proven drug (generic/trade) name knowledge base and ability to recognize medication orders from other orders on doctor's order sheet;*demonstrated organizational skills, problem-solving and time-management skills;*proven effective verbal and written communication skills;*demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively;*proven ability to work effectively in emergency situations and demonstrate professionalism at all times;*demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment;*demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions;*Meditech computer experience and comprehensive understanding of Meditech concepts (drug mnemonic, quantity to dispense based on refill periods) is preferred; and *word processing, spreadsheet, database and email systems are an asset.SALARY RANGE: $24.18 - $27.88 per hourCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with OPSEUS policies and procedures.
