LAKERIDGE HEALTH - DURHAM MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (Multiple Positions Available)
DURHAM MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
CASUAL PART TIME
Hours: 8 hour shifts; Days, Evening, Nights, weekends included (subject to change)
Salary: $29.76 - $31.42
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
The Registered Practical Nurse - Casual will provide support to the residential/crisis programs and its clients on a casual basis. This position is hired on a 'relief' basis. Shifts may be nights, days or weekends depending on the need
Willing and able to work, report to work various shifts schedules, with short notice.
Provide nursing and counselling support to residents within our Housing Program. Please see job description for further details.
Minimum Qualifications:
" Valid certificate of registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
" Must have medical administration certification or a Practical Nursing Program diploma including medication administration.
" Minimum of three years' experience in a human services field environment
" This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's licence and use of a vehicle to transport clients. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof a valid driver's licence and 1 million dollar liability coverage upon hire.
" Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past 12 months;
" Knowledge of major mental illnesses including; signs/symptoms, medication management etc.
" Strong understanding of Community Treatment Orders
" Sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and other related legislation in Ontario.
" Sound knowledge of psychotropic medications including usage and potential side effects.
" Provide support to residents, modeling a positive attitude, utilizing affirmation and encouragement while integrating recovery concepts and client empowerment.
" Provide education on a variety of issues relevant to the client group. Provide life skills training, conflict resolution, and advocacy.
" Demonstrated reliability (attendance and punctuality), communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team member.
" Must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with clients, staff, families, and the public while being open, friendly, approachable, accepting and understanding.
" Strong attention to detail and confidentiality. Ability to work well under pressure.
" Must possess well developed client boundaries, communication, organizational, time management and coordination skills.
" Functional knowledge of crisis intervention and assessment techniques required.
" Must have satisfactory performance record;

" Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-services in this area; and;
" Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard;
