Sr. Occupational Health & Safety SpecialistStatus: FTFile Number: 2100002780Location: Lakeridge Health OshawaWage Schedule: $38.311 - $47.869 per hourProgram: Human ResourcesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the leadership of the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), and working together with the Occupational Health & Safety Specialists, the role of the Senior Occupational Health & Safety Specialist supports, develops and implements Occupational Health and Safety Programs for Lakeridge Health. Examples of these programs include Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Hazardous Materials Risk Management, Occupational Hygiene (air quality, mould, heat/cold stress, vibration, radiation and noise), WHMIS, Confined Spaces, Contractor Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Powered Material Handling, Anaesthetic Gases, Antineoplastic Agents, Slips/Trips/Falls Prevention, Sharps Injury Prevention and Ergonomics. Responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing departmental goals and projects. This role also contributes to OHS Safety policy and procedure development and review, OHS promotion, recognition and new employee orientation, JHSC compliance monitoring and support, OHS Training/Education, and Staff Incident review/analysis. This role will provide back-up support to the Manager, OHS, as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:* College or University graduate in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Industrial/Occupational Hygiene (and a combination of several years of related experience and education);* Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Canadian Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation an asset;* 5 years or more experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomics and/or Industrial Hygiene role, preferably in a healthcare setting;* Advanced knowledge of legislation and regulations covering Occupational Health and Safety (e.g. OHSA, Healthcare and Residential Facilities Regulation, Designated Substances etc.) and Ergonomics;* Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills;* Demonstrated tact and experience in leading workplace parties through complex health & safety issues;* Demonstrated ability to effectively organize work and set priorities;* Proven ability to Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate departmental goals and objectives;* Proven ability to analyse information needs critically and logically;* Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with others; work effectively with clients, public and supervisors* Ability to work independently with minimal direction* Collaborate with a team, providing mentorship and leadership in the execution of projects* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety;* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with Lakeridge Health's policies and procedures.Lakeridge Health thanks all applicants, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process as required under Lakeridge Health's Employment Accommodation policy.
