To participate as a member of the Health Care Team and the Nursing Team. As an individual practitioner, to maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice. To maintain nursing records. To perform as a member of the surgical team, including perioperative role and in all services. To perform other related duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:* Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; * Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;* Successful completion of the Operating Room Technician course from an approved program within three years with combined experience;* Registered Practical Nurse with current Ontario Certificate of Competence;* Demonstrated commitment to maintain Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CON;* Current B.C.L.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation Standards;* Aseptic Technique course required;* Proven to have good technical operating room skills that adhere to AORN/ORNAC standards of practice for a scrub nurse role;* Proven organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and teaching skills;* Demonstrated ability to prioritize and complete assignments adhering to the Operating Room standards of practice for an RPN in a scrub nurse role;* Proven ability to lead peers and educate peers in perioperative nursing skills;* Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills;* Proven Knowledge of care and maintenance of specialized OR equipment;* Proven ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations;* Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients manually and with mechanical aids;* Must be able to meet the expected flexibility in scheduling in an Operating Room setting and have the ability to work all three shifts in order to meet patient care needs in the Operating Room setting; and* Evidence of continuing education related to the position.* Must have satisfactory performance record;* Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;* Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff, patient and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education in this area; and* Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.Accommodation will be provided in all parts of the recruitment and assessment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
